24-Hour News 8 shot video of the fires just before 3 a.m. Indianapolis fire crews battled two fires within two blocks of one another. Authorities say young arsonists hit an abandoned apartment building on Beechwood and a vacant house on Good Avenue. Both are old structures in the heart of historic Irvington.
UPDATE: City code enforcement crews were on the scene Wednesday afternoon. They said they plan to tear down both structures damaged by the arsons because they are unsafe. The demolition could begin as early as Wednesday night. Residents said they were stunned, but not surprised.
“Next time, is it gonna be someone’s house rather than a vacant building?” wondered resident Katlyn Edwards.
Neighbors say the fire fallout is a symptom of a larger problem in Irvington. They call it a crime wave. They cite prostitution, drug houses and car vandalism. They say despite the arrest that was made Wednesday, they still want the city to do more.

The 24-year-old woman told police that a man she had met just before 5 p.m. on March 12 drove her to an alley behind 1500 Shepard St. and stabbed her multiple times.
The woman stumbled to a home along Shepard Street to ask for help, and collapsed on the porch, said Sgt. Paul Thompson.
She was still hospitalized on Tuesday with permanent injuries after losing a large amount blood during the attack.
Her attacker was described as a white man in his late 30s with short hair. He was driving a gray or silver van. Police said the victim’s clothing was never recovered and is believed to have been in the van.
Thompson said the victim has no history of prostitution, and that she said acts before the stabbing were consensual.

He does have one or two ideas of merit such as taking responsibility rather than suing others, and that politicians shouldn’t make life-long careers of public service, but most of his ideas are thoroughly Leftist rot:
Doing drugs, prostitution, killing yourself: have at it!Everyone should be able to get married: two men, two women, three women and a man, dogs and cats, owls and gazelles: have at itEveryone should be provided with “free” health care, even if the government has to rob you and your neighbor to supply itKeep Christian moral influence out of our government which was founded by Christians for a Christian nation based on Christian principles; instead, govern our nation based on transient, amoral principles of convenienceWe must attack all evil countries or none at all especially if they weren’t involved in 911Allow any and all types of bilge to be broadcast on television

… The Delta was the continuation of a feudal system that was a continuation of the aftermath of slavery,” says Lawrence Guyot, who registered black voters in the region during the civil rights era. “That made it a difficult place to convince local blacks to step up. They were a majority of the population but had no political or economic power.”
Guyot’s work was part of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee, a group that turned students into community organizers. In the process, it became one of the most powerful forces of the civil rights movement, incubating national leaders including Georgia Rep. John Lewis and NAACP Chairman Julian Bond. As the group marks its 50th anniversary this weekend, Guyot and other veterans of SNCC (known as “snick”) reflect on their efforts to revamp the politics of the Delta, the heart of the Deep South.
“We organized people from the prostitutes to the preachers,” Guyot says. “We turned this fight into their fight.”

INDIANAPOLIS — Thirteen Indianapolis massage parlors were targeted in a multi-agency sweep on Monday as part of the city’s effort to curb prostitution at those businesses.
The parlors were targeted because of the nature of their advertising, the number of prior police runs and arrests there, 6News’ Jack Rinehart reported.
Six of the parlors had prostitution arrests last week. Some of the businesses had multiple violations, including a lack of proper business licenses and licenses for therapists. Some violated the fire code, along with zoning issues and sign violations.
…
There was a prostitution arrest at DX Spa, in the 5100 block of South Emerson Avenue last week. Officials said the business didn’t have proper licenses, that its signs were in violation of city code and that there were lighting issues and fire code violations in the building.

Chicago aldermen attempting to prevent prostitution offered under the guise of massage services today endorsed a measure to ban massage businesses in locations that are mostly residential.
…
Today’s action amends a previously proposed ordinance that would have enacted a broader ban and was opposed by therapeutic massage therapists who said it would damage their ability to do business. The newer measure was endorsed by Mayor Richard Daley’s administration, unlike the previous one. It is scheduled to go before the full council Wednesday.David Penn, an executive with the Massage Envy chain that is expanding in the city, said the proposal would prevent his company from doing business in some areas — without doing much to address the problem of prostitution. The proposal “doesn’t really solve the problem of the kind of illicit activities that you have,” he said.

… A lot of people will think she was just a prostitute, a drug addict. But she had people who loved her. She was my baby, my firstborn.”
Wylie said she tried to get her daughter into treatment and was disappointed that a judge never required a drug-treatment program.
But Carroll was well-known and liked by many of the participants in a new county program designed to provide treatment for drug addicts convicted of soliciting. Some screamed and cried when her death was announced yesterday during the group’s weekly meeting at the Franklin County Municipal Court.
“She was not just a prostitute, she was the sweetest girl,” said Heather Chapman, 22, who met her in the county jail in November. “She told me she wants to stop. I told her I was going into this program. She said, ‘I know, Heather, it’s going to work.’ I’m so glad I’m in the program. But I’m so sorry seeing my sisters dying.”

Yes the new 96-team format would kill the NIT and soil the NCAA tournament. Great idea, NCAA.
It’s too bad someone with common sense like Groucho Marx does not work at the NCAA. “I don’t want to belong to any club that will accept me as a member,” Marx once said.
If you are a 24th seed, do you really belong?
In trying to explain why it wants to make its men’s basketball postseason as silly as its major college football season, the NCAA deliciously contradicted itself.
For years the NCAA has said it does not want a major college football playoff because it would force its “student-athletes” to miss too much class when really it is more concerned about its “business strategies” with the lucrative bowls that virtually make these “student-athletes” Rose, Orange, Fiesta and Sugar prostitutes.

The figures come after The Daily Telegraph disclosed in January that four in 10 series criminals were being let off with a caution.
The figures, released under the Freedom of Information Act, showed cautions as punishment for sexual offences increased over the five years within the force area.
A total of 611 sex offenders were issued with cautions by the constabulary after the criminals admitted guilt, officers said.
These included 11 rapists who confessed their crimes. Four of those had admitted the rape of a child under the age of 13.
The figures also revealed 74 sexual assaults on women, seven on men and 28 on children were dealt with by caution rather being taken through the courts.
Four cautions were given for incest or familial sexual offences, two for abuse of children through prostitution or pornography and two for sexual grooming.
