Local missionaries travel to Zimbabwe

PENDLETON — In an effort to emulate Jesus’ example of ministering to society’s “outcasts,” a missionary team from Pendleton Christian Church traveled to the unstable country of Zimbabwe, South Africa.
There, they ministered in the harshest section of the capital, known to be occupied by criminals and prostitutes.
“Epworth Park is the slums of Harare, the capital of Zimbabwe – the roughest part of the city,” said Jim Blackwell, pastor of families and fellowship at Pendleton Christian, 1170 Pendleton Ave.
“They have a lot of criminals living there and the commerce is prostitution which continues to spread AIDS and cause more and more problems. A lot of the people we ministered to were prostitutes or coming out of prostitution.
