Indianapolis Escorts: Scandal is all too familiar to police
… Davis referred to the thefts as ‘cuffing,’ ” says a trial brief filed May 18. “It was a common practice for police officers to steal items during the execution of search warrants. As a general rule, the lead detective on a particular search got first pick of any item to steal.”
Davis said Long and Edwards had lifted items for years, including money, firearms, jewelry and flat-panel televisions.
“We’ve done our very best to investigate,” Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Chief Michael Spears said. “If information is made available to us about any other misconduct that may have occurred, it will be investigated promptly and thoroughly.”
Several other officers were arrested last year, including a drug detective charged with selling a handgun to a known felon and a patrolman charged in Johnson County with aiding in promoting prostitution in connection with his wife’s escort service.
