Indianapolis Strip Clubs: Empowered for fitness
Karen Kahler, of Roseville, and Carmel Lloyd, of North Ryde, have swapped their gym memberships for pole dancing.
They are among dozens of North Shore mums in their 30s and 40s attending women-only pole dancing classes each week at Miss Fit Dance Studio at Artarmon.
Ms Kahler, a mother of five, has been going since December while Mrs Lloyd began six months ago.
“It lets you be girly and it’s good for your self-esteem,’’ she said.
Mother of three Mrs Lloyd, whose favourite move is an upside down crucifix manoeuvre, said pole dancing was a great way to stay fit.
“It stimulates your fitness and builds up your core strength,’’ she said. “And we do performances at the end of each term, which is challenging, learning a routine.’‘
Instructor Sarah Thompson said women were not intimidated by the stigma of pole dancing and its association with strippers.
